INTRODUCTION 

Jawahar Lal Nehru College was established in the year 1967 with affiliated college status. It has been converted into a constituent unit of Ranchi University, Ranchi with effect from 24.11.1980 and later on to Kolhan University Chaibasa, West Singhbhum which was established on 12th August, 2009. The college has been included by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi in the list of colleges under section 2(f) and 12(b) of the UGC Act 1956. Honours in various major traditional subjects of Science, Arts and Commerce are available in our college. The college also offers honours in vocational subjects for the students.


Father (Dr.) Beni Ekka was appointed as the first Vice Chancellor of Kolhan University. The first youth festival of Kolhan University was organized in his successful leadership. In this festival, the college also won four first prizes in various events. At present, Shri Hari Kumar Keshari is the Honourable Vice Chancellor of this University.

This college was accredited by NAAC with Grade ‘C’ in cycle 1 securing a CGPA of 1.86 in the year 2017. At present, the college is offering UG courses affiliated to Kolhan University (Chaibasa) through altogether 15 subjects. Besides that the university has granted permission to the college for Post Graduate teaching in the following subjects i.e. History, Hindi, Economics, Poltitical Sc. and Commerce.


The college has approximately 2.93 acres of land in its main campus and another 0.48 acres of land surrounding the campus.


The college has its on campus called Rajbari in local dialect --- the famous historic palatial campus located in the heart of Chakradharpur Township.Chakradharpur is a Divisional Head Quarter of the South Eastern Railway and provide a station in the Howrah-Mumbai (Via Nagpur) main line. The Puri Haridwar Kallinga Utkal Express, Tata Allepy express train and various trains of Howrah Mumbai main line also pass through Chakradharpur. The college is about 1 kilometre from the railway station. It is 64 K.M. west of Tatanagar (Jamshedpur) and 100 K.M. east of Rourkela. Ranchi, which is the capital of Jharkhand is 120 K.M. from here and well connected by road line with frequent luxury buses.
